The NewTechWood All Weather Siding – Horizontal Installation Guide (2025 PDF) provides step-by-step instructions for installing NewTechWood UltraShield boards on exterior walls. This guide covers furring layout, expansion and contraction spacing, AW02 starting trim installation, proper use of AW08 clips, inside and outside corners, butt-joint methods, and finishing techniques for both the top and bottom of the wall.
The manual begins with safety notes, required tools, and wall-prep guidance, including leveling the surface, applying a breathable WRB, marking stud locations, and installing 1″ (¾” actual) furring strips no more than 16″ on center. Installers are reminded that NewTechWood cannot be installed directly on an existing siding surface and must maintain a minimum 1″ continuous airflow behind all boards.
A key concept in this system is expansion and contraction. Each board must be locked at **one single fixed point** using the locking hole in the AW08 clip. For horizontal installation, the locking clip is placed at the **center of the board**, or at the butt joint when two boards meet. All other clips allow the board to float. A full expansion-and-contraction table is provided to help installers choose correct end-gap spacing based on temperature and board length.
Installation steps include fastening the AW02 starting trim, inserting the first US09 board, securing AW08 clips along each furring strip, and maintaining proper spacing at inside corners (US47), outside corners (US46), and F-Trim (US44). The guide illustrates detailed layouts for every wall section: between edges and corners, at butt joints with or without I-Trim, and between opposing outside corners.
Upper-row installation includes measuring remaining height, cutting boards to final dimension, installing the T-7 rubber stopper, face-screwing the last board, and finishing with an F-Trim or optional metal flashing. Additional diagrams show correct fastener positioning, pre-drilling requirements, minimum ¾” clearance above grade, and options for handling multi-board spans.
