Stains & Sealants

Choosing the Right Finish Matters

The right finish does more than change the color of a board. It affects how your project weathers, how much maintenance it needs, and how the material performs over time. Different wood species absorb and react to finishes differently. What works well on Cedar may not be the best fit for hardwoods like Ipe or Cumaru. Exposure matters too. Full sun, covered porches, vertical cladding, soffits, and decking all age differently and should be treated accordingly.

At TimberTown, we help match the finish to both the material and the application. Whether you’re trying to preserve a rich natural tone, slow down graying, or build a long-term maintenance plan, we can help guide the process from the start.

Good wood deserves a better finish process than plastic tarps and unpredictable jobsite elements.

ProCoating® by OHC brings staining into a controlled environment before the material ever reaches the jobsite. The result is a cleaner, more consistent finish across the entire package. Especially on applications like cladding, soffits, ceilings, and custom milled profiles where detail matters. ProCoating offers flexibility in both texture and appearance depending on the design intent of the project. Finishes can be smooth and modern or more textured with a brushed-finish to enhance the natural movement of the wood grain. Color options range from natural clear tones and warm browns to weathered driftwood looks, ebony finishes, and custom stain palettes.

Material arrives install-ready with consistent coverage. This eliminates time spent coordinating field staining and dry times.

Available through all TimberTown locations.

More Than Just Color

A quality stain or sealant does more than change the color of a board. It plays a major role in how the material weathers, performs, and holds up over time in climates like Austin, Nashville, and Atlanta.

Different wood species react differently to finishes. Dense hardwoods like Ipe and Garapa absorb products differently than cedar, pine, or thermally modified woods. Sun exposure matters too. A south-facing deck in Texas is going to weather differently than a covered soffit in Tennessee.

Products like ProLuxe™ and CUTEK® give more flexibility in the final look of a project with tint and color options designed to work with the wood, not cover it up. Whether you want to maintain a richer natural tone, slow down the graying process, or create a more consistent exterior finish, the right product and color combination can make a big difference long term.

At TimberTown, we help customers think beyond just “what color looks good.” We help match the finish to the material, application, and environment so decking, siding, soffits, and exterior wood projects age the way they were intended to.
