Hemlock pairs a light, understated color with a mostly straight grain that gives walls, ceilings, and architectural details a clean rhythm. Its quiet appearance makes it easy to use across large surfaces, while naturally occurring knots and darker streaks keep the material from feeling manufactured or predictable.
Hemlock is a softwood, but it isn’t a delicate one. Its balance of moderate strength, manageable weight, and good machining characteristics makes it well suited for custom-milled siding, soffits, screens, and interior paneling. Leave it natural, add a clear finish, or use stain to shift the tone—the grain still does the work.

Soffits
Hemlock’s manageable weight, good machining characteristics, and low pitch content make it a practical choice for long soffit runs and detailed roof transitions.
Hemlock has low natural decay resistance, so good soffit design still matters. Keep it protected from direct weather, provide the ventilation the assembly requires, and seal field cuts during installation.

Hemlock can be milled into slats, battens, fences, fins, and custom profiles that give architects another way to work with light, shadow, depth, and repetition. Run it across an accent wall, wrap it around a corner, or carry the same pattern overhead to turn a surface into a feature.
Change the board width, spacing, profile, or orientation and the same species creates an entirely different effect.
Siding
Siding asks more from Hemlock because there is nowhere to hide from sun, rain, and seasonal movement. The assembly has to do its job. Start with properly dried material, allow for drainage and ventilation behind the boards, maintain the required clearances, and seal every field cut.
