A Little Imagination. A Lot of Ark
Custom Pine and Composite Decking Bring a Three-Level Noah's Ark to Life
What started as a simple pencil sketch became something much bigger.
In fall 2025, Strong Sprouts approached JH Wood Works with a vision for a faith-based indoor playground, youth gym, and family community space designed to encourage creativity, movement, and connection. At the heart of that vision was a tech-free environment where children could play, explore, and use their imaginations.
Luke, owner of JH Wood Works, was given a simple sketch of what the team had in mind. He began translating the idea into a three-dimensional design, but when he presented what he thought was a big ark, the Strong Sprouts team had one request: make it bigger.
The result was a 33-foot-long, 13-foot-wide, 20-foot-tall Noah’s Ark with three levels and plenty of room for young explorers. Custom stained Pine wraps the ark and the interior levels are decked out in composite.
Bringing a structure of this scale to life required just as much planning as creativity. The ark was built in sections inside the JH Wood Works shop, then carefully transported up two flights of stairs to the second story of the Strong Sprouts building. Each section took a team of six men to carry into place. Once everything was upstairs, the team assembled, stained, and finished the structure onsite.
From the initial sketch to the final installation, the project took three months to complete.
The ark is just one part of the larger vision for Strong Sprouts. The studio’s second phase includes a village of eight playhouses, each creatively designed to encourage imaginative play. Together, creating an environment where children can explore, move, and let their imaginations take the lead.
For JH Wood Works, projects like this are part of what makes the work so rewarding. As a small business, Luke and his team never know what creative opportunity will come next. They have built everything from goat playsets, farm animal barns, chicken coops, custom playgrounds, carports, greenhouses, tables, and just about anything else their customers can imagine.
