NewTechWood UltraShield Decking – Installation Guide (2025 PDF)

Back to All Resources

The NewTechWood UltraShield Decking Installation Guide (2025 PDF) provides complete instructions for installing NewTechWood’s solid and grooved composite decking boards, including US07, US01, and US53 profiles. This comprehensive guide covers framing requirements, ventilation, fasteners, expansion and contraction, clip systems, breaker-board framing, stairs, and fascia installation.

The guide begins with important safety and planning notes, including proper storage on flat surfaces, acclimating boards for 48 hours before installation, and using only stainless-steel or composite-rated deck screws. Installers are reminded that NewTechWood cannot be installed directly over concrete, existing decking, or any flat surface — the system requires a ventilated substructure with at least 4″ of continuous airflow beneath the deck.

Framing and joist-span tables outline residential and commercial spacing for solid and grooved boards, including reductions for diagonal layouts. Fastener rules emphasize driving screws at 90°, never toe-screwing, using sister joists at butt joints, and avoiding colored chalk which permanently stains the cap.

Expansion and contraction guidelines include a full temperature-based gap table and guidance for locking boards at the mid-span when installing full-length runs. Diagrams show proper placement of locking clips (TC-1) and standard T-Clips (TC-2), as well as clip orientation for even movement across the board.

Butt-joint installation requires sister joists and 3/16″–13/16″ end gaps, while large decks with multiple butt joints require breaker-board framing using ladder-joist construction. The guide details how to install breaker boards using TC-17 and TC-27 clips.

Decking installation covers use of MG-3 starting clips, inserting grooved boards, sliding clips into the grooves, and driving screws from above. Best practices include pushing all boards tight before fastening, checking alignment every few rows, and confirming clip legs are fully seated.

Stair tread installation requires a minimum of four stringers, 12″ center-to-center spacing, and only solid profiles. The fascia section specifies correct fastener spacing, required pre-drilling with the Deckfast Fascia Tool, and fastening directly into joists — never into deck boards.
