The Deckorators Venture Decking Installation Guide (PDF) provides complete instructions for installing Venture™, Deckorators’ wood-plastic composite (WPC) decking line. This guide covers framing requirements, gapping and spacing, surface fastening, Pro Plug® installation, hidden fasteners, butt-joint blocking, stair construction, and Venture fascia installation.
Venture decking must be installed on a level, properly ventilated substructure. The guide reminds installers that all joists must be flush, flat, and free of protruding fasteners—WPC decking will telegraph dips or humps in the frame. Blocking is required every 4’–6′ between joists to prevent movement and support loads.
Standard joist spacing is **16″ on center**, or **12″ on center** for diagonal layouts or commercial applications. A minimum **2″ clearance** beneath joists is required for airflow and drainage.
Gapping changes with temperature at installation:
• 32°F and below → **5/16″**
• 33–79°F → **1/4″**
• 80°F and above → **1/8″**
A 1/4″ gap is required at all permanent structures.
For surface fastening, Venture requires two fasteners per board at every joist, installed **½” from each board edge** into the thickest lobed section. All screws must be pre-drilled and countersunk, especially within 1½” of board ends. Recommended fasteners include 2¾” corrosion-resistant composite deck screws or Cap-Tor® xd Epoxy screws for hidden surface fastening with Pro Plug®.
Grooved Venture boards can be installed using Stowaway™ hidden fasteners. The guide details how to fasten the first board, insert Stowaway clips at every joist, pin the board at its center with a #8 × 2″ stainless screw, and slide subsequent boards into place. Special instructions are provided for butt joints, where additional blocking and extra fasteners are required.
Fascia installation includes 1/8″ gaps at corners and solid surfaces, 16″ on-center spacing for fascia screws, and pre-drilling with a fascia-specific bit. Stair instructions outline **8″ max stringer spacing**, tread dimensions with and without risers, and two screws per joist per board.
