The Millboard Decking Care & Maintenance Guide (PDF) provides clear instructions for keeping Millboard composite decking clean, safe, and performing at its best through every season. This guide outlines how the boards behave outdoors, how to remove stains, and what to expect during the first few weeks after installation.
General cleaning recommendations on pages 3–4 advise brushing the surface with a stiff natural-bristle brush to reach into the molded grain. Millboard can be washed with warm water and mild household detergent, or with decking cleaners such as Jeyes Decking Power. A pressure washer may be used carefully following the guide’s limits—no more than 2,000 PSI, a 40–60° fan tip, and a minimum 300mm distance from the surface.
Stain-removal guidance (pages 5–7) covers common situations. Grease and oil can be treated using diluted Selden F014, while cement and building dust may require Selden H002. Limescale, rust, and tannin marks can be cleaned using Zep Lime & Rust Remover or Bar Keepers Friend. Tree sap can be softened with oil soap before scrubbing. Many stubborn stains may require repeated applications or longer contact time.
Page 8 explains the release agent present on new boards, which may cause temporary sheen or water beading. This disappears naturally after 6–8 weeks and can be accelerated by washing with warm soapy water. The guide also highlights surface awareness: dragging sharp furniture legs, spiked shoes, or heavy planters can mark the surface.
Seasonal considerations include algae growth (page 10), which can be removed with regular cleaning or specialized products like Algon. Fire pit precautions (page 10) recommend placing heat sources on a fire-safe surface and removing embers immediately to avoid marks. Cold-weather care (page 11) explains how to remove frost, ice, and snow correctly without metal shovels. Heat considerations note that darker boards run warmer under direct sunlight and may require footwear.
Page 9 reminds installers to protect Millboard during adjacent construction to prevent cement dust or overspray from adhering to the surface.
