The NewTechWood European Siding System – Horizontal Installation Guide (PDF) provides step-by-step instructions for installing NewTechWood UH46 and UH58 siding boards in a horizontal layout. This comprehensive guide covers furring requirements, expansion and contraction rules, AW02 starting trim, AW08 locking clips, inside and outside corner trims, butt joints, and finishing options for the top of the wall.
The guide begins with safety guidelines, surface preparation, and WRB recommendations. Installers are reminded that European Siding cannot be installed directly on existing siding or flat surfaces — it requires a ventilated substructure with a minimum 1″ continuous airflow behind the boards. Furring strips (¾” actual) must be installed no more than 16″ on center using composite-rated stainless steel screws.
A key requirement of this system is NewTechWood’s expansion and contraction behavior. Boards must be locked at **one fixed point only**, using the locking hole on the AW08 clip. For horizontal installation, the locking clip must be located at the **center of each board**, allowing all other clips to float. A temperature-based gap chart is included to select correct spacing at edges, corners, and butt joints.
Trim installation includes placing UH50/US73 F-Trim on outermost edges and UH51/UH60 Outside Corner Trim on corners. Starting Trim (AW02) is installed 1¾” above grade with specific clearances at corners and edges. Once trim is in place, the first UH46/ UH58 board is installed by seating it into the AW02 starting trim and securing with AW08 clips.
Subsequent courses are installed by sliding each board into the clip of the course below, locking only the center clip, and maintaining appropriate side gaps according to the expansion table. Instructions also cover inside-corner spacing, outside-corner alignment, and maintaining a ¾” minimum gap at the base.
For the final board, the guide includes steps for measuring remaining space, cutting the board to the correct height, installing the T-7 rubber stopper, face-screwing into furring strips with oversized pre-drilled holes, and finishing the top using either cut F-Trim or metal flashing.
