TimberTech DrySpace – Installation Guide (PDF)

Back to All Resources

The TimberTech DrySpace Installation Guide (PDF) provides complete instructions for installing the DrySpace under-deck drainage system, designed to create a dry, usable area beneath elevated decks. This guide outlines how to determine the correct pitch, install Ledger F-Brackets and Combo Brackets, insert V-Panels, and manage drainage so water moves safely away from the structure.

DrySpace is designed for decks built on 12″ or 16″ on-center joists. The guide begins with important limitations, including never installing DrySpace over beams, leaving at least a 3″ gap before the fascia for ventilation, and not enclosing the perimeter of the system. Installers will also find guidelines for trimming V-Panels to fit narrow joist openings and using crimping techniques so the panels lock securely into the brackets.

The installation process starts by establishing a consistent pitch of 1/8″ per foot away from the house using chalk lines. Ledger F-Brackets are fastened 1-1/2″ from the bottom of the joist, followed by installing DrySpace Combo Brackets on each joist. Instructions highlight how to cut brackets to length, slide them into position, fasten through nail slots without overdriving, and modify brackets for outside joists or double-joist conditions.

Double and triple joist installations include cutting a 1-1/2″ relief slot, trimming bracket legs, taping bracket seams with butyl rubber tape, and anchoring the combined assembly into the saw cut. Butyl tape is also used to seal overlapping corners of Ledger F-Brackets and along flashing surfaces.

V-Panel installation includes cutting panels 3″ shorter than the joist length, crimping drainage ends to prevent backflow, and inserting each panel into the Combo Bracket and Ledger F-Bracket using putty knives and a protective 2×4. A best-practice recommendation includes installing tin flashing under the deck boards closest to the house to ensure water drains into the system properly.

The guide concludes with gutter installation options, showing where to attach gutters on beams or at the ledger to collect and route water away from the structure.
