The Deckorators Contemporary Cable Rail – Two-Piece Bracket Installation Guide (PDF) provides step-by-step instructions for installing Deckorators’ modern aluminum cable railing system using the two-piece top rail bracket design. This guide covers post installation, structural blocking, top rail trimming, bracket assembly, cable spacing, and stair rail installation.
The manual begins with a full tool and hardware list, noting that clean or chrome-plated tools should be used to avoid contaminating stainless cable fittings. Posts must be spaced at either 6′ or 8′ on-center depending on the kit, and must always be attached through decking into approved structural blocking—deck boards alone are not rated to support railing loads.
Installation starts with positioning posts, marking the four 3/8″ base holes, drilling through decking into blocking, then leveling each post using the leveling plate and the integrated set screws. Once plumb, posts are secured with long structural lag screws (recommended 5/16″ × 4″).
The two-piece top rail bracket system includes a bracket base and bracket cap. The bracket base attaches to the post at a height of 34-3/4″ for 36″ railing or 40-3/4″ for 42″ railing. The top rail is cut to length—rails supplied for 6′ and 8′ spans include room for bracket clearance—and is then mounted to the bracket base using #8 × 1/2″ bracket screws. The bracket cap snaps into place to conceal fasteners and create a clean, modern profile.
Cable spacers are required every three feet and include matching connectors that attach to both the underside of the top rail and the deck or stair tread. Spacers keep cables aligned and tensioned over longer spans.
Stair rail installation uses swivel brackets and barrel screws that rotate to match stair pitch. Installers mark cut lines by temporarily clamping the stair rail in place, then attach swivel bracket components to both rail and post. Cable spacers are added to stair runs as needed.
