NewTechWood European Siding System – Vertical Installation Guide (2025 PDF)

The NewTechWood European Siding System – Vertical Installation Guide (2025 PDF) provides full instructions for installing NewTechWood’s UH46 European siding boards in a vertical orientation. This guide covers furring layout, expansion and contraction rules, AW08 clip placement, inside and outside corner trim, butt-joint options, and finishing the top of the wall for a clean, weather-ready exterior.

The manual begins with substrate preparation and environmental requirements, including using only flat, plumb walls and applying a breathable WRB behind all furring. NewTechWood siding cannot be installed directly on existing siding or a solid surface; vertical installations require a ventilated cavity with at least 1″ of unobstructed airflow.

Furring strips must be 1″ nominal (¾” actual) and spaced no more than 12″ on center. Diagrams show how to shim uneven surfaces, maintain required 1″ gaps at the bottom of the wall, and leave 3/8″ clearance at the top where furring meets the ceiling.

A critical rule for vertical installation is that **each siding board must be locked at the bottom using the locking hole on the AW08 clip**. The first and second clips from the bottom must be locked; all other clips remain floating to allow for expansion and contraction. An expansion table provides temperature-based gapping values for the top, bottom, and butt joints.

Trim installation includes fastening UH50/US73 End Trim at outer edges and UH51 Outside Corner Trim at corners, leaving 1″ minimum clearance above grade. The first UH46 board is face-fixed at one edge and clipped with AW08 at the other, using oversized pre-drilled holes to accommodate movement. Subsequent boards are installed by engaging the groove over the AW08 clips, locking only the bottom clips and floating the rest.

Last-board installation includes measuring the remaining gap, cutting UH46 boards to exact width, adding a T-7 rubber stopper for back support, pre-drilling oversized holes, and face-fixing the board into furring. Butt-joint options include aluminum angle alone or angle plus a cut F-Trim cap.

The guide concludes with two top-finishing methods: metal flashing or F-Trim (UH50), both installed with sealant and stainless fasteners.
