March is a great time to be outdoors in Austin, TX. The weather is warming up, but it’s nowhere near the 100° temps of summer and everything is starting to come back to life. In between panels at the convention center and shows on various stage SXSW festival goers can get a breath of fresh air on some of best patios in Austin.
Rainey Street Bars
Just a few blocks away from the convention center on Rainey Street there’s a plethora of old homes that have been retrofitted into comfy bars complete with spacious patios. Lustre Pearl was the place that started the trend, but now there are many more spots to grab a drink and relax outdoors. We recommend: Lucielle Patio Lounge, Clive Bar and the newest addition Craft Pride.

Key Bar
It’s possibly the best known bar patio in town, because Key Bar is virtually all patio. The establishment is reminiscent of the open-air bars in Key West where four walls just seem stifling. On comfortable March days during their extra long happy hours (all day Sunday and from 4-9pm Tuesday through Friday) Key Bar is sure to be full of patrons.

Buffalo Billiards
One of the best views up and down East 6th Street can be had from the upstairs patio of Buffalo Billiards. It’s not big, but it’s a cozy spot where you can relax while all the action happens down below.

Gourmand’s Neighborhood Pub
A little off the beaten path, but not far away from the SXSW, sits Gourmand’s Neighborhood Pub. Gourmand’s was an amazing place for gourmet soups and sandwiches long before it built it’s new outdoor space. The large concrete and wood patio is a great place to sit in the shade with your pooch or a large group of friends.

Easy Tiger
The Easy Tiger beer garden is a scenic spot that’s perfect for enjoying homemade bread, pastries, pretzels, coffee, local cheeses, a variety of meats and craft beer. Day or night it’s a tucked away oasis in the middle of 6th street where you can enjoy a game of ping pong or just take it all in.

Violet Crown Social Club
When you want to grab a late night drink the spacious, softly lit patio at Violet Crown Social Club is a great spot to stop in at. There are a lot of tables, but during SXSW they’re sure to be busy since Violet Crown isn’t far from the action at the convention center.
