The Millboard Decking Installation & User Guide (PDF) provides a complete overview of how to install, fasten, cut, edge, and maintain Millboard’s high-performance wood-free decking. This guide walks installers through every phase of the process, from leveling joists to finishing fascia and edging profiles.
The document opens with required tools and PPE (page 3). Installers should use a level, string line, miter or jigsaw, standard woodworking tools, a power drill (not impact), and safety equipment such as gloves, long sleeves, N99 dust mask, eye protection, and ear protection. Page 3 also lists optional supplies like silicone spray for Durafix screws and polyurethane glue for miter joints.
Key points on page 4 cover handling, storing boards face-to-face, laying out boards before install, and maintaining consistent gapping. Page 5 outlines storage rules, including keeping boards stacked flat on level bearers spaced no more than 16″ apart and carrying boards with two people to avoid surface abrasion.
Joist spacing and framing requirements appear on page 7 with visuals showing 16″ centers for residential decks, 12″ centers for commercial, and reduced spacing for 45-degree installations. Millboard can be installed on lumber, DuoSpan aluminum, or Plas-Pro recycled composite frames (page 8).
Cutting guidance on page 8 notes that boards can be cut with standard wood tools using carbon-tipped blades. A 2–3° back-cut is recommended to help square ends and improve butt-joint alignment.
Fastening instructions (page 9) explain proper use of Durafix screws—coated with silicone spray, driven with a standard drill driver, and sunk 3/8″ below the surface for a clean finish. DuoFix side-fixing tools can also create consistent spacing. Page 10 details screw placement: two screws per joist crossing, three at board ends, with 3/16″ side gaps and 1/16″ end gaps.
Edging and fascia installation steps (pages 12–13) highlight rigid bullnose edging, flexible edging profiles, scarf joints, and touch-up coating requirements. Care and cleaning guidance (page 14) includes safe pressure-washing limits and stain-removal tips.
